McLaren F1 team celebrates a robust season opener in Bahrain

McLaren F1 team celebrates a robust season opener in Bahrain, securing 12 points with Norris and Piastri’s top finishes.

McLaren F1 scored 12 points in Bahrain, thanks to Lando Norris finishing sixth and Oscar Piastri in eighth. This marks a significantly better start to the season compared to a retirement and a last-place finish, which was the team’s outcome in Bahrain in 2023, and a result that pleases Director Andrea Stella.

“It’s great to start the season with a strong performance in Bahrain. We were reliable, we were quick enough to compete with Mercedes during the race, and this allowed us to earn good points on a track we know doesn’t best suit our car’s characteristics,” Stella noted.

“I want to commend the team at McLaren. They have built on the progress we made last year and designed an MCL38 that is both reliable and competitive. This is a solid foundation for the new improvements we plan to introduce as soon as possible.”

“Oscar and Lando drove exceptionally well and maintained consistency. They made no mistakes under challenging conditions, especially with the hard tires, and enabled our team to get off to a good start in 2024.”
