Despite swirling rumours, Max Verstappen remains calm and focused, insisting his priority is racing, not speculation, after Red Bull’s shaky start.
Speculation has been swirling in recent days—fueled even more by Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko, who recently admitted concerns over the Dutch driver potentially triggering an exit clause in his contract.
But Verstappen, as cool and composed as ever, isn’t biting.
“I don’t really know where the rumors are coming from—I don’t read them,” he said. “I’m just focused on making the car better.”
Red Bull had a rocky start to the season in Bahrain, and Verstappen admits it wasn’t their finest weekend. Still, the four-time world champion remains laser-focused on progress.
“We were all pretty disappointed after Bahrain, no doubt,” he continued. “But we’re working hard, trying new ideas, and pushing to stay competitive. That’s my week-to-week—looking for ways to improve.”
Despite all the noise around his future, Verstappen is keeping things simple.
“Honestly, everyone’s talking—except me. I just want to focus on driving and working with the team. That’s where my head is at in F1. I’m relaxed.”
And while he admits he’s not totally happy with the car’s current performance, he’s not pointing fingers.
“I’m happy at Red Bull. Of course, I’m not satisfied with where we are right now—but that goes for everyone. We all want to be better, and that’s no secret.”
“We’ve had some great conversations as a team in recent weeks. Everyone’s aligned and working to turn things around. That hasn’t changed.”
But will he finally put the rumors to rest? Not exactly.
“I’m not thinking about that,” he said. “I’m just taking it one race at a time. Hopefully, things go better than they did in Bahrain—something more like Suzuka. In the end, it’s not entirely in my control. If we’re not the fastest, it’s going to be tough to fight for the championship. But we’ll keep pushing. We’ll see.”
