Max Verstappen’s São Paulo Grand Prix performance dazzled, evoking comparisons to Ayrton Senna and redefining excellence in Formula 1 driving.
Max Verstappen’s performance at the São Paulo Grand Prix left many observers stunned.
The Red Bull driver won the rain-soaked race from 17th on the grid after a controversial week marked by numerous penalties and harsh criticism of his racing style in wheel-to-wheel battles.
Christian Horner compared Verstappen’s drive to Ayrton Senna’s performance at the 1993 European Grand Prix, where the Brazilian legend delivered one of F1’s greatest laps.
Mark Webber, former F1 driver and now Oscar Piastri’s manager, was also blown away by Verstappen.
“If it’s not Verstappen’s best performance, it’s definitely right up there…”
“Not many drivers could even come close to making the moves he did.”
“He looked at ease. The grip he found in the slow corners, the way he controlled the car, very smooth, very clean driving.”
“I don’t think I even saw him run wide or drift the entire race, which is extraordinary.”
“We know he’s put together a phenomenal list of incredible races and comebacks. But this was a statement to remind everyone, ‘I am the best on the planet.’ An extraordinary drive from Verstappen. He carved his way through, outpacing all the others.”
“He was the only one able to quickly find opportunities and make overtakes. The others struggled for grip and took longer. He was just creative, brave, decisive.”
