Max Verstappen Seeks Consistency Amid 2025 Uncertainty

Verstappen Eyes Stability but Keeps 2025 Goals Open

13/02/2025

Max Verstappen hopes for a more stable F1 season in 2025 but remains cautious, insisting it’s too soon to define his objectives.

Max Verstappen openly hopes for a “more stable” F1 season with Red Bull in 2025.

Gerhard Berger—the first athlete supported by Red Bull—lamented the team’s turbulence and performance decline last year, even questioning whether it marks “the beginning of the end” between Max and his team (read more here).

“It will be fascinating to see if Red Bull can regain its former strength or if Verstappen will continue to struggle to win. Then, he’ll wonder if he’s still in the right team.”

Team principal Christian Horner, who personally survived power struggles and the 2024 scandal, insists last year’s issues were purely related to the car’s performance.

“We understood where the development wasn’t optimal last year,” he says today, aiming to reassure.

“When we managed to get the car into the right window, we performed well, but when we drifted even slightly, the car became really problematic.”

“The engineers have focused heavily since mid-2024 and throughout the winter break on expanding that window. Not necessarily by adding raw performance, but simply by widening the window.”

Interestingly, technical director Pierre Waché is not convinced by this theory, warning that “by opening this sweet spot (optimal window), we risk missing out on the real potential that is theoretically available.”

As for Verstappen, while Red Bull missed out on the Constructors’ Championship last year, the Dutchman still secured his fourth consecutive world title.

During a photoshoot for his team’s new outfits, and as he became an ambassador for the AlphaTauri clothing brand, Verstappen shared what he hopes to see from Red Bull Racing in 2025.

“What I’m looking forward to most is seeing how competitive we are.”

“Last year was difficult at times. Of course, we had a lot of great moments, but also some tough ones. I hope we can be, let’s say, a bit more stable with our F1 and a bit more versatile throughout the season.”

However, he dismissed any suggestion that, given the challenges of 2024, his patience or approach could now be tested, as rumors continue to swirl about a possible early exit from the team if things go wrong.

“Honestly, my mindset hasn’t really changed. Of course, winning four titles has been a dream—more than a dream, even. So I’m relaxed.”

“I have a new teammate in Liam (Lawson), and I’m excited to work with him. I’m looking forward to seeing how competitive we can be. And from there, once you realize how competitive you are, you set a target.”

“But it’s too early to say for now.”
