Marko hails Verstappen’s evolution, challenging British media bias as the champion solidifies his dominance and mental fortitude in 2024.
The 2024 F1 season has sparked debate over potential bias in the sport, particularly from the British media regarding Max Verstappen.
Dr. Helmut Marko once again criticized the “British media,” questioning their judgment and objectivity.
The enthusiastic support for Lando Norris by British outlets has irritated Verstappen, who claimed he has faced prejudice due to his “wrong passport.”
The Red Bull advisor naturally defended his driver, offering a clear example.
“These relentless attacks make no sense. The facts speak for themselves. Max has matured even further this year. He was the best mentally, as a driver, and in head-to-head battles, focusing only on what was necessary.”
“If someone had said at the start of the year that he would let Lewis Hamilton and both Ferraris pass because he was thinking about the world championship, it would have been dismissed as nonsense. But he did it because he knows where to focus.”
Marko praised Verstappen’s dominance during the rain-soaked Brazilian Grand Prix.
“He had already delivered an excellent performance at Interlagos in 2016 under similar conditions, but he made a few mistakes back then. This time, he made none, demonstrating just how strong he is mentally.”
“The 17 fastest laps he completed at the end of the race were a psychological blow to his competitors; he outclassed everyone and once again proved why he is one of the sport’s best.”
“This is our top priority, and his top priority. We are not concerned with journalists’ ratings or any level of popularity with them. It’s up to them to admit they are wrong. Max has matured.”
According to Marko, “it is true that there isn’t necessarily objective balance in the British media.”
“But I think the phenomenon at play is that the person emerging on the scene (Norris) as a potential new star or challenger tends to receive more sympathy than the established champion.”
“But Max doesn’t care; he always says what he thinks and shows his emotions, and I think that’s normal.”
