Max Verstappen is stepping away from Red Bull’s playful TikTok content, insisting his image should align with serious, high-profile global brand campaigns.
Max Verstappen has had enough of Red Bull’s quirky social media antics. The four-time world champion is pulling back from the team’s TikTok activities, with his manager making it clear that the lighthearted videos don’t align with Verstappen’s image.
Raymond Vermeulen, his manager, has told Red Bull’s top brass that Verstappen finds these viral clips, especially on TikTok, a bit too ridiculous.
“Big brands like Oracle, Tag Heuer, and Heineken pour millions into global campaigns around Max,” he explained.
“There are buses in central Melbourne with his face on them—it looks sharp, professional. And then, you see a TikTok of him popping balloons or doing something silly. It just doesn’t fit.”
“You don’t make a four-time world champion do that kind of thing.”
A New Approach to Social Media
Moving forward, Verstappen’s camp will vet any social media content before he gets involved. And the Dutchman himself is more than happy to take a step back.
“I prefer serious activities, something with substance, something people can actually learn from. I’ve done too much of this TikTok nonsense already,” Verstappen admitted.
“There are fun things, of course, but they have to make sense. Smashing up caravans with Daniel Ricciardo in Spielberg—that was fun. But that was a different time, and you only do those things once. It’s unique.”
“After ten years in F1, there’s not much I haven’t done. At some point, you just have to be a bit more selective.”
