Max Verstappen blasts the FIA for the excessive fine given to Carlos Sainz during the Singapore GP qualifiers.
Max Verstappen intensified his criticism of the FIA and defended Carlos Sainz following the “super stupid” fine levied on the Spaniard for crossing the track during the Singapore Grand Prix qualifying.
Sainz was fined €25,000 for crossing the track after his crash in the early minutes of Q3, with half of the fine suspended for the remainder of the season.
The Ferrari driver crashed at the final turn and was found by the FIA to have violated Article 26.7 b) of the sporting regulations, which states that walking on the track without permission is not allowed.
Not only was Verstappen frustrated by his own penalty for swearing, but he also deeply disagreed with the one imposed on Sainz.
“Carlos got fined for crossing the track, right?”
“I mean, what are we talking about? It’s a red flag. You know, cars come in and go back to the pits. I think it was quite safe and he knows what he’s doing.”
Emphasizing that “no driver is stupid,” he added, “Again, as I see it, it’s super stupid to fine him for that.”
