Yuki Tsunoda expresses his delight at securing Dr. Marko’s confidence for the 2025 season, eagerly anticipating a formal contract soon.
Yuki Tsunoda has responded to the bombshell dropped by Dr. Marko just before the start of media day in Montreal: the Japanese driver will indeed be with RB F1 in 2025, and his teammate will be either Daniel Ricciardo or Liam Lawson (read here).
Tsunoda had emphasised that his preferred option for next season was to remain with the Faenza-based team if Sergio Perez retained the second Red Bull seat. This has now been confirmed.
“The Red Bull family is always the first option,” Tsunoda replied when asked about Dr. Helmut Marko’s confirmation.
“It’s in the media. I haven’t signed anything yet. But as I said, discussions are ongoing, and I am happy at RB F1.”
“I just need to make sure we are all aligned, but with the current performance at RB F1, there is not much reason to look elsewhere.”
Regarding Marko’s continued vote of confidence over the past few weeks, Tsunoda highlighted the difference.
“I certainly feel more supported. Normally, this comes at the end of the season, which has aged me a lot, to be honest. The last three years have been tough, it’s a bit different this season, so it’s good.”
“It means I can commit more, and I hope to have the contract to sign soon.”
Isn’t Tsunoda disappointed not to have taken Perez’s place?
“Even these two years he still has to perform, and in this kind of environment, anything can happen. So, congratulations to him, and besides that, for my part, I continue to focus on what I am doing and proving myself. I just need to progress further, and at the same time, I hope Red Bull will understand more or see more of my progress and potential performance, and maybe that could change in the future.”
“The good news is that other teams are starting to show interest in me. I have also received some options from other teams. It’s a good thing that I can also increase my value, especially given this interesting driver market.”
“But above all, my priority is Red Bull. I want to make sure we are on the same page because Red Bull has been a part of my life so far, and without them, I wouldn’t have accomplished as much.”
