Marko Slams Brown - Wolff for Stirring Trouble at Red Bull

Brown and Wolff accused of ‘stirring up trouble’ at Red Bull

Red Bull’s Helmut Marko has accused Zak Brown and Toto Wolff of intentionally creating chaos amid growing tensions in F1.

McLaren is doing its best to cause “trouble” for Red Bull, according to Dr Helmut Marko.

As Max Verstappen and Lando Norris battle for the world title, their teams are clashing over technical innovations and stewards’ penalties.

However, a more personal war of words between the team principals intensified in Austin, after Red Bull advisor Marko suggested Norris lacked Verstappen’s mental strength and often squandered his race starts.

So, after Norris once again lost positions from pole at the start of the United States GP, did Marko feel vindicated?

“There’s been a lot of noise again just because I said Norris was a poor starter,” said Marko.

“But I never spoke about mental health. I only said Max is mentally stronger.”

Indeed, McLaren CEO Zak Brown had responded to Marko’s initial comments on Norris by suggesting the Austrian had set the discussion on mental health in F1 back by decades.

“You can’t twist my words as he did,” Marko replied. “This is a deliberate attempt to provoke unrest. But we know the games Zak Brown plays.”

“He deliberately causes trouble wherever he can.”

Brown is also often backed by Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff, who even suggested that the FIA stewards who penalised Norris for his overtaking manoeuvre on Verstappen in Austin were biased in favour of Red Bull.

“The stewards acted in accordance with the rules,” countered Marko. “There’s no room for criticism.”

“But the solution would be quite simple – just install something like we have at the Red Bull Ring, where if you go off-track, you automatically lose time, and there’s no further drama with penalties.”

Wolff also claimed that Red Bull’s T-tray adjustment mechanism was “scandalous.” Marko smiled.

“The FIA can take another look at it if they wish. All teams have something similar in one form or another.”

“It’s just a device that allows mechanics to more easily adjust the ride height so they don’t have to spend hours installing and removing it.”

Finally, some believe that the result in Austin was so significant that Verstappen is now almost certain to secure his fourth consecutive title.

“I had already said before Austin that he would win the world championship. Now it looks even better, although we still have five races to go.”
