Aston Martin F1’s pursuit of Max Verstappen is no surprise, but Marko questions whether the rumored $1 billion offer is realistic.
It is “perfectly logical” for Aston Martin F1 to try to lure Max Verstappen, according to Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko.
Recently, rumors suggested that the team owned by Lawrence Stroll, after securing Adrian Newey for 2025 and beyond, was offering Verstappen a long-term contract totaling $1 billion, including salary, bonuses, and team shares.
Marko, Verstappen’s mentor and boss, believes there may be some truth to this rumor. However, he thinks reports of an offer reaching $1 billion are almost certainly exaggerated.
“It’s no secret that Newey is a big fan of Max. It’s perfectly logical for them to make him an offer.”
“But I doubt it’s really that high, especially given Aston Martin’s current stock price. It is said to be a substantial offer. But we don’t know if it actually exists.”
Verstappen admitted having contact with Aston Martin, but only to acquire GT3 cars for his new racing venture. Photos published this week showed the Dutch driver testing an Aston Martin for his Verstappen.com team in France.
Marko believes the GT connection is actually “the carrot” for Verstappen.
“If you have a Newey who certainly expresses his own ideas and preferences regarding drivers, it would be logical for Aston Martin to try to make an offer to Max.”
“Officially, the contact stemmed from Max’s passion for GT racing, and Max is the owner of the team and regularly drives these GT cars himself. Apparently, the Aston Martin is one of the most interesting cars in terms of its base. A car like this will be integrated into Max’s GT structure.”
