Red Bull’s Helmut Marko criticises Lando Norris’s F1 errors, praising Max Verstappen’s consistency amid McLaren’s internal pressure and Piastri’s rise.
Red Bull’s Helmut Marko questions Lando Norris’s F1 mindset as Oscar Piastri strengthens his position within McLaren ahead of F1 2025.
Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull advisor, admitted that Lando Norris’s mistakes in qualifying and during the race in Canada—particularly his rear-end collision with teammate and championship leader Oscar Piastri—are giving the team “hope” again.
“He made another mistake. Lando isn’t helping his team, but Oscar must be pleased deep down. If McLaren doesn’t make a decision, it might be Lando who does so unintentionally, and the hierarchy will establish itself.”
“That’s something you’ll never see with Max. He makes one mistake per season, at most.”
“Norris is quick,” adds Franz Tost, former AlphaTauri team principal and still a Red Bull consultant.
“But he shoots himself in the foot. The pressure also clearly comes from his teammate, who’s already driving like a world champion. McLaren already knows who’s strongest in extreme situations.”
When asked whether Norris can rise to a challenge like winning a world championship, Tost replies: “Mentally? I don’t know.”
Dr. Helmut Marko, however, is certain.
“Piastri is our rival for the world championship. He’s mentally stronger.”
