Marcus Ericsson Evaluates Simulators for Cadillac F1 Debut

Ericsson to Shape Cadillac F1 Simulator Choice for 2026

Marcus Ericsson, Andretti Global driver, will assess multiple simulators to guide Cadillac’s preparations for its anticipated F1 entry.

The former F1 driver and Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson has revealed his role in the early stages of the Cadillac F1 project.

Cadillac’s expected arrival in Formula 1 next season follows more than a year of discussions between Liberty Media and a team initially called Andretti F1.

The entry of American automotive giant General Motors (GM) through a Cadillac F1 team has been approved for F1 2026, with the former Andretti team now operating under this new name ahead of a planned debut next season.

One key contributor to this effort is former Caterham and Sauber F1 driver Marcus Ericsson, the 2022 Indy 500 winner, who revealed he has been tasked with evaluating the team’s simulators.

The Swedish driver, competing for Andretti Global in IndyCar, explained that he had been given this unusual assignment.

“My employer, Andretti, asked me to travel to England to test various simulators.”

“I’ll provide feedback to help them select the right model for the entire organization, including Formula 1, IndyCar, and sports cars.”

Ericsson stated that the visits will likely involve manufacturers and teams to assess different simulator options, with his prior F1 experience playing a critical role in ensuring the infrastructure meets the necessary standards.

“Simulators have become an integral part of motorsport, and I’ve worked on improving my own usage over the past winter.”

Although Ericsson left F1 at the end of 2018, he admitted that his involvement in the decision-making process does not indicate a potential return to F1. Nonetheless, the Swedish driver expressed his satisfaction with being part of the project.

“It’s great that they want to use me and my experience to help them make their F1 debut.”
