Magnussen VF-24 Primed for Success at Spa

Magnussen: VF-24 Tailored for Spa, On Paper

26/07/2024

Kevin Magnussen gears up for the Belgian GP, optimistic about the VF-24’s performance at the legendary Spa circuit.

Kevin Magnussen confides at Spa that he expects a good weekend with Haas F1, as the VF-24 has proven to be quite fast on high-speed tracks.

The Dane thus wants to capitalize on this before taking a break and reflecting on his future in F1 or elsewhere.

“I don’t know if I’m confident, but I’m looking forward to this circuit, given the nature of the car and the strengths we’ve had this year.”

“This circuit seems, on paper, quite good for us. But the midfield is so tight these days that it’s very unpredictable to know where we’re going to end up. We’ve had races where we didn’t think we were good, and then we ended up being quite good.”

“Nothing can be taken for granted at the moment. So, we need to go in again with an open mind and try to have a good weekend.”

Magnussen acknowledges that Haas F1 performs well nearly everywhere this year but it’s not yet perfect.

“We are still not consistent enough, but since last year, we have improved our consistency. Last year, especially in qualifying, we were capable of being good, but then on Sunday, we would fall apart. And I think we’ve changed that situation so that it’s almost the opposite now. We are often better in the race than in qualifying. And certainly on Sunday, we are much more consistent. But again, with such a tight pack, just a small mishap can qualify you far from your optimal position. And that’s been a significant factor in the inconsistency this year, I think.”

Magnussen will no longer drive for Haas F1 in 2025, with the two seats now assigned to Ocon and Bearman. But he has clearly expressed his desire to stay in Formula 1. But if that doesn’t happen, is he considering the FIA World Endurance Championship WEC? IndyCar?

“Yes, everything you mentioned. I think everything is on the table in that case. So, yes, it’s hard to… I’ll see what’s available and make a decision when I get there. Right now, I’m in Formula 1 and there are still a few seats available for next year. I’d like to see where all this leads and then look at other things if necessary. Let’s take things in order.”
