Official: Magnussen Incurs 12 Penalty Points and a One-Race Suspension

01/09/2024

Kevin Magnussen incurs a race ban after accruing 12 penalty points, pending final confirmation from the FIA.

Official: Kevin Magnussen, following a failed overtaking manoeuvre on Pierre Gasly resulting in contact, has accrued an additional two penalty points on his licence, bringing him to a total of 12 points and triggering a suspension for one Grand Prix.

The FIA imposed a 10-second penalty during the race, which demoted him from 9th to 10th place at Monza. This penalty was also accompanied by two penalty points.

Thus, the Danish Haas F1 driver becomes the first Formula 1 pilot to accumulate 12 penalty points within a rolling 12-month period, and is logically facing suspension. A further official statement from the FIA is expected on this matter.

Haas F1 is likely to call upon their 2025 driver, Ollie Bearman, to replace him in Baku in two weeks’ time, although another surprise may still be forthcoming.
