Long-Term Deal Colapinto’s Williams Contract Spurs Interest

Colapinto’s Future: Williams F1 Weighs Loan or Sale Options

11/11/2024

Williams F1 considers options for Franco Colapinto‘s future amid ongoing interest from rival teams, exploring both loan and sale scenarios.

Williams F1 team principal James Vowles has confirmed that the team holds a “reasonably long” contract with Franco Colapinto as discussions about his future continue.

Interest from Red Bull has been widely reported, with team principal Christian Horner seen leaving Williams’ hospitality area in Interlagos, while other teams, such as Alpine F1, are also reportedly interested in the Argentine driver.

A door recently closed with Audi F1/Sauber opting for Gabriel Bortoleto, released by McLaren without any financial obligations according to Mattia Binotto.

However, thanks to his performances and marketing appeal in South and Central America, the Argentine driver hasn’t said his last word, according to Vowles, who is still seeking the best arrangement for his team.

Asked if the options were to loan or sell his contract at a high price, he confirmed.

“Yes, basically, that’s what we’re doing. Williams has a fairly long contract with Franco, so it needs to be compensated. But that’s nothing unusual when a team supports a young driver’s rise.”

“And I mean, when we signed Franco, it was already on the basis that he was incredibly talented. The usual approach is that teams sign drivers like this to reasonably long contracts.”

“We’re fortunate—Franco has done an amazing job. I think the world can see that, and it’s a great reward for him that he’s outstanding and teams genuinely want the chance to work with him.”

“All we’re doing right now, all I can say for the moment, is that we’re exploring the options available to him for the future, and we hope to have news we can share. But for now, there’s not much more to say.”
