Logan Sargeant aims to secure his place at Williams for 2025, knowing he must perform at his best to convince the team to extend his contract.
Logan Sargeant is keen to remain in Formula 1 for a third season next year as he strives to convince Williams to extend his contract into 2025. The American driver understands he must perform at his best to secure his seat.
“Of course, I want to stay. I believe I can reach the level I need to, so that’s what I’m trying to do,” Sargeant stated, asserting he is “extremely” close to achieving that level.
Sargeant could prove he has reached the necessary level if he matches the performance of his teammate, Alex Albon. He feels capable of this, but believes the difference in how Williams introduces upgrades prevents this from being visible externally.
“I think I have a chance every weekend. I think I have a chance this weekend, but at the same time, it’s difficult when upgrades are planned for him. Ultimately, the team knows the differences between the cars, so even if it’s not evident on the track, it can still be calculated.”
Williams introduced updates in Imola to reduce the weight of their FW46, and Sargeant is pleased to see progress, though he acknowledges much work remains: “I think there have been good moments. I think we’ve made a significant step forward.”
“It’s unfortunate that we’re in a tough position with the car right now, but I think it’s starting to go in the right direction. We’ll see what we can do this weekend.”
Despite the tough stance from his team principal, James Vowles, who has indicated the team is exploring other driver options, Sargeant is grateful for the support he receives from the Briton:
“I think he’s there to support me, of course. I think he has been for a year and a half now.”
“I think we’re all trying to move the team forward as a whole. Clearly, we have a way to go, and everything we can do better as a team ultimately helps me perform better as a driver.”
