McLaren solidifies its future by extending Oscar Piastri’s contract, ensuring stability and shutting down speculation about his long-term Formula 1 plans.
The Australian driver, set for his third season in Formula 1—his third in McLaren orange—has already made his mark. He won a Sprint race in 2023 as a rookie and followed up with two Grand Prix victories in 2024. Previously signed through 2026, he’s now locked in beyond that, with rumors suggesting his deal could run until 2029 or even 2030.
“It feels amazing to be part of McLaren’s long-term vision,” Piastri shared. “The team believed in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we’ve been on to bring McLaren back to the top has been incredible.”
“There are so many talented and special people at the MTC who have helped me become a Formula 1 race winner early in my career. I’m really proud to continue representing this legendary team.”
“I’m excited to keep fighting for Grand Prix victories with McLaren. After last year’s incredible achievements, I’m more motivated than ever to stay at the front of the grid.”
McLaren’s Winning Formula: Stability and Ambition
Team principal Andrea Stella is clear about McLaren’s intentions—this duo of Piastri and Lando Norris is built to win championships.
“Extending our partnership with Oscar is a statement of our belief in him as a driver and our shared ambition to fight for titles together,” said Stella. “He’s continued to impress with his talent, determination, and work ethic, both on and off the track. With Lando alongside him, we have everything we need to keep pushing forward.”
McLaren CEO Zak Brown echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the team’s confidence in its lineup.
“It’s fantastic to confirm Oscar’s extension. He’s not just a hugely talented driver—his work ethic and fit within the team’s culture made this an easy decision,” Brown said. “We have the best driver pairing on the grid, and Oscar has already proven to be a huge asset.”
With McLaren’s 2024 Constructors’ Championship under its belt, the team is aiming even higher. “Oscar played a crucial role in our success last season, and we’re all excited to see what we can achieve together in the years ahead,” Brown added.
Locked in and focused, McLaren isn’t just thinking about race wins—it’s building for long-term dominance.
