Lewis Hamilton Stands Firm Against Trump’s Agenda

Hamilton Takes on Trump in Diversity Battle

03/03/2025

Lewis Hamilton remains committed to diversity, vowing to push back against Donald Trump’s attacks while expanding his interests in the United States.

Lewis Hamilton stated that he would continue to promote diversity and inclusion despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s attacks on such programs.

Five years ago, while with Mercedes, Hamilton launched the Hamilton Commission to promote diversity in British motorsport. Hamilton, who joined Ferrari this year, told Time magazine that he was pleased with the progress made.

“I thought, oh my God, I finally have a more diverse work environment that we’ve built over time. And now, when I see what he is doing—or rather undoing—I go back to the start of my time at Mercedes, when there was no diversity.”

Diversity, equity, and inclusion programs like those promoted by Hamilton have been among the most visible casualties of Trump’s return to the U.S. presidency last month.

He has rolled back government initiatives aimed at promoting underrepresented groups and pressured American companies to do the same. Trump also seized the opportunity to blame diversity programs for the deaths of 67 people in a plane crash in Washington, without providing any evidence to support his claims.

Hamilton, who occasionally resides in Colorado and is involved in certain U.S. businesses and sports, including the NFL’s Denver Broncos, stated that he would not be deterred from promoting diversity causes.

“I’m not going to change what he does, nor what the government does. All I can do is try to ensure that in my space, in my environment, I try to uplift people.”

“There will be forces along the way that don’t want that, for reasons I can’t understand. That doesn’t stop me. It’s a fight we will simply continue to push forward.”

He admitted that recent racist incidents involving Italian football players had made him concerned about his team change.

“I’m not going to lie, it definitely crossed my mind when I was considering my decision to join Ferrari.”

“As with so many things, it’s often such a small group of people that creates this trend for many. I don’t think it’s going to be an issue.”
