Charles Leclerc leads in practice at Imola but is concerned about shifting winds affecting Saturday’s qualifying session. Ferrari aims to adapt to the changing conditions for optimal performance.
Charles Leclerc had an ideal start to the weekend at Imola. The Ferrari driver set the fastest time in both practice sessions in what is almost a B-version car. He is pleased with this but is concerned about the totally different conditions expected tomorrow, with wind blowing in a different direction.
“So far, everything has gone well. The feeling with the car is good,” said Leclerc. “The improvements made to the car are working as expected, which is also a good thing.”
“The day went smoothly. So it’s great to be home. It’s always a special feeling for Ferrari to be here and to have so much support around the track, it means a lot to all of us.”
“It will be fantastic if the weekend continues in this direction. But tomorrow, conditions will change drastically. The wind will completely shift, which will have a significant impact on all the cars. This is where we need to be at our best to anticipate these changes.”
“We need to stay grounded because, as I said, the track conditions will change a lot tomorrow, and track position here is absolutely crucial, so qualifying will be super important, and it will be important for us to do the job in qualifying.”
Carlos Sainz was behind his teammate but is satisfied with the behavior of the upgraded SF-24: “A good Friday for the team. We had good FP1 and FP2 sessions, made some changes that seem to be going in the right direction, and I was reasonably happy with the car.”
“I didn’t manage to get a good lap with the soft tires, but I think we are in a good position. After two Sprint weekends, it’s nice to have time to test and try different approaches on the car, especially with a new package here. There’s still a bit of work to do before qualifying.”
