Charles Leclerc eagerly anticipates Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari, predicting significant benefits for the team.
Charles Leclerc is delighted at the prospect of welcoming Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari next year, with the Briton set to become his new teammate. He sees this as excellent news for the Scuderia.
“Obviously, it’s extremely positive,” Leclerc stated on the Beyond the Grid podcast. “I think when a champion like Lewis joins a team, it brings a lot of motivation to everyone involved.”
“The first truly positive effect he’ll have on Ferrari, and of course he will also bring, with all the experience he has gained over the years at Mercedes, a different way of working, a different perspective, and that’s always beneficial for a team.”
“For me, it will be extraordinary, as I will have in the same car as me the most decorated driver in the history of F1. It will be extremely interesting for me to learn from one of the best drivers of all time, but also a great challenge and a big motivation to beat Lewis and show what I am capable of.”
Asked about what it would mean to beat the seven-time world champion on the track, he prefers not to think about it: “I don’t know and, to be honest, I’m not even thinking about it yet. I’m just trying to focus on myself, to be the best version of myself once he is here.”
“Obviously, I try to be the best version of myself every time I’m on the track, but with Lewis joining the team, he will certainly be a benchmark, so it will be very important for me to be at my top level.”
“And then we’ll see how it goes. I will give my best, he will give his best, and then we’ll see, and I can tell you after that, if I succeed, how I will feel.”
Leclerc has “full confidence” in Ferrari
The Monegasque reveals that he is beginning to get to know Hamilton, although he acknowledges that it will be easier in 2025: “Everything is relative, but within the paddock, he is certainly one of the drivers with whom, especially lately, we have most discussed our passions, particularly music and fashion.”
“So, it was a good thing to exchange views on this topic in particular, but outside of the track, we haven’t spent much time together yet. However, that will change once he has joined the team, with all the additional tasks we have off the track, we will get to know each other even better.”
While he is flattered to drive for Ferrari, Leclerc reveals that he would not have stayed with the team if he did not trust in its potential: “Yes, that’s for sure. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have re-signed. Even if you don’t have a chance to win the title, driving for Ferrari is an incredible honour.”
“But to get the best out of myself, I need to believe in the project I am in. I have full confidence that I am in the right team to challenge Red Bull and McLaren in the future.”
