Charles Leclerc accepts full responsibility for his Miami crash, reflecting on a poor tire decision, while aiming for a strong weekend recovery.
Charles Leclerc is taking full responsibility for his frustrating crash that kept him from competing in the F1 Sprint at the Miami Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver admits that his tire choice was far from ideal, but he also owns up to the error that led to the accident.
Leclerc’s day went downhill after a spin during the reconnaissance lap. With heavy rain falling, Ferrari decided to send him out on intermediate tires, a choice that Leclerc now believes was the wrong one. Despite this, he’s not blaming the team or the circumstances.
“It’s very frustrating, but at the end of the day, I can only blame myself,” Leclerc said with a resigned smile. “It’s clear that the decision to go out on intermediates in these conditions wasn’t the best, but that’s no excuse. The way I lost it was pretty unfortunate.”
The crash happened on a straight, with Leclerc not even pushing full throttle. “I was just waiting to get to the next corner,” he explained. “I couldn’t do anything; I completely lost control of the car. I tried to steer, but nothing happened. I tried braking, but nothing worked. I did everything I could, but nothing was effective.”
Despite the setback, the Monégasque driver is already looking ahead, determined not to let this early mishap define his weekend. Ferrari has until 10:15 PM to make repairs to his car and get it ready for Q1, and Leclerc is hopeful that they’ll be able to salvage what’s left of the weekend.
“It hurts, but I can’t dwell on this disappointment for too long. We have to stay focused because qualifying is in two hours,” he said. “I hope we’ll have enough time to fix the car. If we do, it’ll be a good opportunity to turn things around and get back on track for the weekend.”
