Ferrari lags behind at Silverstone, yet Leclerc and Sainz glean valuable insights from a challenging Friday session.
Charles Leclerc finished fifth on the first day of testing at Silverstone, but the Ferrari driver had a challenging start to the British Grand Prix. He explains that he hopes to perform better tomorrow but acknowledges there are many issues to address.
“It was a complicated day, but we learned a lot. Now, we need to analyse the data from both cars and make the right decisions for tomorrow,” stated the Monegasque driver.
“We have a lot of data to sift through, and everyone is working tirelessly to make progress for tomorrow. It was a good day, not a very fast one, but productive. We are working on it, so I can’t say which direction we’ll take, but I’m confident.”
“We conducted numerous tests today and will analyse all the collected data to make comparisons and progress as a team. For now, we are not entirely satisfied and will work hard to resolve the issues quickly to achieve good qualifications tomorrow.”
Can Ferrari fight for victory this weekend? Leclerc remains doubtful: “I don’t think that will be the case. Unfortunately, I believe Red Bull and McLaren are far ahead this weekend. But we’ll see how it goes; I hope I’m wrong.”
Carlos Sainz was not satisfied with his performance, but he is pleased with the groundwork done to gather data on the SF-24 and better understand it: “An interesting Friday for us as the goal was to collect useful data to give us a complete picture of our car.”
“Mission accomplished, now we need to analyse everything to be ready for tomorrow. We need to make some decisions on the configurations to use, but I think we can position ourselves decently this weekend.”
He also confirmed that McLaren seems to have an edge over the competition: “McLaren appears to be a step ahead, as they have been in recent weekends. They are one or two steps ahead of us. It’s the same this weekend; we are trying our best to understand the package, but they are in a different league.”
