Leclerc Optimistic as Ferrari Shines in Canadian GP

Ferrari Adaptable, Competitive in Montreal Trials

Ferrari shows resilience under varied conditions at the Canadian GP, with Charles Leclerc expressing optimism for the weekend’s prospects.

Ferrari experienced a promising day this Friday in Montreal. The Scuderia did not seek to post top performances at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix, but Charles Leclerc was in the top 5, and he felt good under all conditions.

“As much as possible under these conditions. It’s hard to do much with the car because the feeling changes every time you hit the track. But I’m happy because we were competitive in all conditions; we never set the best time at the right moment, but that’s a good thing,” noted the Monegasque.

“This doesn’t mean there’s nothing to improve on the car; we need to make changes for tomorrow. It’s quite clear, I think everyone will notice a difference between what we had today and what we’ll have tomorrow if it’s dry. We’ll have the FP3 to tune the car, and if FP3 is wet and the qualifying is dry, that will be a big unknown.”

Carlos Sainz was also confident, although he hopes the rain won’t be too challenging for the qualifications: “Yes, we can always learn, and it was mainly about studying the rain intensity, the drying of the track, and these are useful things to learn because it looks like the weekend will be in similar conditions.”

“Rather than trying to set a lap time, we focused on feeling the car under different conditions, with different tyres, to know which will be the right tyre at the right moment in qualifications and the race.”

“Last time, we had difficulties with the team in the rain during the Sprint Shootout in China. We had to analyze why both cars were so far from the right tyre temperature window. It’s not just about driving; it’s about tyre preparation, and if you manage that, you gain two or three seconds.”

It’s worth noting that Ferrari eventually got away with a 5,000 euros fine for having sent out Leclerc’s car on intermediates before it was allowed at the beginning of Free Practice 2. Thus, the Monegasque will not face any penalty in Canada for this.
