Charles Leclerc’s recent track time with the SF-24 yields promising results, aligning with simulator performances.
Charles Leclerc spent three hours on the track this morning and 30 minutes this afternoon, following an interruption in the morning session when the Ferrari driver drove over a drain cover. The Monegasque is pleased to find that the SF-24 has not been a disappointment.
“So far, everything is going as planned, we’re not encountering any bad surprises, and the car is performing just like it does in the simulator, which is a good sign. As for competitiveness, it’s too early to say,” acknowledges Leclerc, who has not encountered any surprises.
“No good, no bad. But that was expected, for it to behave like it does in the simulator, allowing us to then develop the car in the virtual world at Maranello, and that’s positive.”
Leclerc is uncertain about the pecking order but expects to see Red Bull at the front, although he feels more positive than at the start of 2023: “I think it’s very difficult, Red Bull remains the benchmark, and they have a very good car this year too, but knowing where we stand is hard to say.”
“We’ve made good progress, the car is doing what it’s supposed to, which wasn’t the case at the start of last year. I remind you that I was much more concerned after the first few days because the car was very difficult to drive. We’re starting from a better base but there’s still work to be done.”
The Monegasque comments on Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari in 2025, viewing it as very positive: “I didn’t want to make a lot of comments out of respect for Carlos, we still have a season to go together and we’ve spent many moments trying to bring the team to the top, and I hope we’ll get closer in 2024.”
“Regarding Lewis, I was aware of his arrival for some time. It’s a very good opportunity for the team and for me. It’s going to be great for him, it’s going to be great for me, and it’s going to be great for the team.”
