Charles Leclerc celebrates a milestone season, overcoming setbacks to deliver a strong and regret-free performance in Formula 1.
Charles Leclerc acknowledged this evening at the FIA Gala, where he collected his trophy for third place, that despite the disappointment of Ferrari missing out on the Constructors’ title in the final race of the season, he takes a very positive view of his 2024 campaign. The Monegasque driver has no regrets about how the year unfolded or its results.
“It was a positive season—disappointing because when you’re fighting for a title in the final race and fall short, it hurts. But looking back, I think we had a great season,” said Leclerc.
“It’s the first season since I’ve been in F1 where I have no regrets or moments where I think we could have done much better in a race or missed a big opportunity. We won every race we could win, and that’s a great achievement.”
“We weren’t fast enough to win either championship, but we had a very strong second half of the season, and we need to use that momentum to do a better job and fight for both titles.”
He believes that maintaining the level shown in the latter part of 2024 throughout a full season could secure the championships: “I think so. Because in the first half of the season, we weren’t close to McLaren or Red Bull. Red Bull was dominant early on, then McLaren took over, and Monaco was the only place where we dominated. In Australia, Carlos benefited from an issue Max had.”
Leclerc will welcome Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari and is eager to measure himself against the seven-time world champion: “He’s accomplished so much and with multiple teams. Now that he’s coming to Ferrari with all that experience and knowledge, he’ll be able to push the team.”
“And he’ll push me too, for sure. With his talent, I’ll look at the data and see that whatever he can do in the car, I can do as well since we’ll have the same car. It’ll be a big challenge, and I’m very motivated.”
