Charles Leclerc insists Ferrari remains in the hunt for the constructors’ title, believing they can overcome McLaren and Red Bull in the remaining races, stating that “everything is still to play for this season.”
Charles Leclerc has warned McLaren F1 and Red Bull that “everything is still to play for” in the three-way battle for the constructors’ title.
After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Ferrari holds third place in the standings with 425 points, 51 behind leaders McLaren and 31 behind second-placed Red Bull, with seven rounds remaining—including three sprint races that each offer a maximum of 15 points.
Leclerc is third in the drivers’ standings, trailing leader Max Verstappen by 88 points and McLaren’s Lando Norris by 29. The Monegasque driver is considerably more optimistic about the constructors’ battle.
“There is certainly an opportunity, but I think realistically, to win the drivers’ championship, we will need not only to improve in terms of performance but also probably a bit of luck,” he told the media regarding Ferrari’s title chances this year.
“For the constructors, everything is still to play for because I think it’s about fifty points, and with two drivers in a team, it’s achievable.”
“We have our chances and objectives that we’re going to set for ourselves, but before thinking about a title, we need to improve our car to be constantly in the fight with the guys ahead and not just be there in a race because they haven’t optimized their package.”
“With this new generation of cars, we’ve seen a lot of ups and downs from different teams, and it’s very difficult to find momentum and have a straight line in terms of progress with the developments.”
“Mercedes and ourselves are making progress, but we sometimes have unpleasant surprises, whereas McLaren has probably been the strongest over the last eight or nine races—and Red Bull was strong in Baku even if the Italian Grand Prix was a bad surprise for them.”
“That’s the hierarchy: McLaren on top, Red Bull second, then Mercedes and ourselves, who need to find a bit more consistency.”
