Leclerc Closes Gap, McLaren Still Leads in Jeddah

Leclerc is optimistic after a solid start in Jeddah, while Hamilton faces balance issues, with McLaren keeping a slight advantage for now.

Charles Leclerc had a promising start to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah, finishing the day in the top 5. This performance leaves Ferrari hopeful that the rest of the weekend will be positive, but only if they can put everything together during qualifying.

“We’re a bit off pace compared to the cars ahead of us, but if we put everything into it, tomorrow’s qualifying should be tight,” Leclerc commented.

“We all seem pretty close, with McLaren still having the edge, but we’ll focus on ourselves and see what we can extract tomorrow.”

Lewis Hamilton found himself further down the order but avoided a penalty after a near-miss with Alex Albon in a fast section of the track. Both the race stewards and Albon assessed the incident as non-dangerous, and the seven-time world champion escaped without a sanction.

“It was a tough day,” Hamilton admitted. “We’re still searching for the right balance between the front and rear ends of the car, and I’m struggling to maintain consistency throughout the lap at this stage.”

“There’s work to be done tonight, but the team is fully focused, and we’ll keep pushing to find the improvements we need.”
