Leclerc Clinches Unexpected Third at Zandvoort GP

Leclerc ‘Quite Surprised’ to Secure Third at Zandvoort

25/08/2024

Leclerc secures an unexpected third at Zandvoort, praising his team’s strategy and car’s pace.

Charles Leclerc did not anticipate finishing on the podium at the Dutch Grand Prix after starting sixth and expressing disappointment with his qualifying performance. The Ferrari driver commended the performance of his car and the operational aspect of the team for this unexpected third place.

“I am very surprised. I am seldom happy with a third place but today, we can be pleased with the work done. The weekend had been challenging for the team; we were struggling from Friday, and we found pace in the race, executed the perfect strategy to overtake our rivals and kept them behind us. I am very pleased to restart the season like this,” Leclerc stated.

The Monegasque gained a position at the start and then took advantage of a good strategy to climb to third place. From there, he managed to fend off Oscar Piastri and his McLaren, which was a real surprise to him.

“From the start, I knew it was a good opportunity to gain one or two places, I wasn’t sure if we could keep them afterwards. But I absolutely did not imagine that we could hold a podium place after such a weekend.”
