Leclerc Balances F1 Dedication with Ice Cream Launch

12/04/2024

Charles Leclerc launches “LEC” ice cream while affirming his commitment to Formula 1 amid new business ventures.

Leclerc insists he remains fully committed to Formula 1, despite his venture into the ice cream industry.

Recent rumors suggested that the Ferrari driver wanted to open an ice cream parlor in his native Monaco, but this initiative has gained momentum.

Today, in collaboration with the Italian ice cream company Grom and his manager Nicolas Todt, Leclerc is launching his own brand of low-calorie ice cream aptly named “LEC”.

“I first had the idea to open a shop in Monte-Carlo,” he admits, “but then I met Federico Grom through mutual acquaintances and we thought about doing something much bigger than that.”

This move echoes a similar project by Lewis Hamilton, the 2025 Ferrari driver and seven-time world champion who recently launched Almave, a non-alcoholic blue agave spirit.

“We were talking about it recently,” Leclerc continues. “He has this new Almave project, which is really cool because he developed a new drink while I was developing ice cream.”

“So sure, when he comes to Ferrari, we’ll celebrate with my ice cream and his drink.”

“I’m already working on new flavors for 2025, but in the meantime, we aim to also reach major French supermarkets by the end of this year.”

Grom commented, “We haven’t yet thought about actual stores like the one Charles wanted to open, but in the future, who knows.”

However, the timing of Leclerc’s new business venture is a bit tricky, given that he is currently struggling to stay level with Carlos Sainz.

While admitting that “no one likes to finish second,” the 26-year-old driver denies that his venture is a distraction.

“I would never have embarked on this project alone because I don’t have much time. 99 percent of my life is Formula 1, and my priority is to be the best Formula 1 driver. I devote everything I have to F1.”

Leclerc was also asked about Fernando Alonso’s decision to extend his Formula 1 career for at least two more seasons at the age of 42.

“I won’t still be in F1 at 42,” he insists. “I would like to try something else by then, like Le Mans.”
