Isack Hadjar delivers another standout drive in Japan, repeating his Shanghai feat with confidence, composure and serious pace in Suzuka.
Isack Hadjar pulled off another impressive performance in qualifying, landing P7 for the Japanese Grand Prix—matching his strong showing in China just two weeks ago.
The Racing Bulls driver had a rocky start to Q1, slowed down by an issue with his harness. But once that was sorted, he hit his stride.
“Something was bothering me in the car, so I had to come back in,” Hadjar explained. “But after that, everything felt better. With every lap in qualifying, I felt more comfortable. We kept fine-tuning the setup, and it all came together on the last run—I felt really good.”
Starting seventh puts Hadjar in a great position compared to his direct rivals, and he’s confident heading into Sunday.
“It’s the same position I had in China, so I know how to manage from there. The weather is still uncertain, and anything can happen, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile, Liam Lawson’s return to Racing Bulls was less straightforward. He made it out of Q1 but couldn’t progress past Q2. Despite beating Tsunoda in the second Red Bull, Lawson was left frustrated.
“It started off well, but it ended in a disappointing way,” said Lawson. “The car felt strong in practice and Q1. We were looking for better balance, but I couldn’t improve on my second run. We’ll check what happened, but that’s how it is.”
Lawson remains hopeful that race day will offer a chance to move up the field.
“Everything can change tomorrow. Suzuka always throws up surprises. The new surface handles differently and will probably retain water if it rains—but honestly, I don’t mind that.”
