Franz Tost’s Caution: Lawson Must Avoid Verstappen Rivalry

22/12/2024

Franz Tost advises Liam Lawson to focus on personal growth, warning against rivaling Verstappen, one of F1’s all-time greats.

The former Toro Rosso team principal (now Racing Bulls), Franz Tost, expressed his satisfaction with Red Bull Racing’s decision to promote one of their junior drivers to partner Max Verstappen.

However, the Austrian has some important advice for Lawson.

“It’s great to see a junior driver getting a seat; it proves the program works. Both Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson deserved the promotion.”

“Liam was chosen, and knowing Christian Horner and Helmut Marko well, they made the decision with all the data at hand.”

“All I can say about Liam is that he must do everything he can and never attempt to compete with Max Verstappen. Max is one of the greatest of all time, alongside Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna.”

“Max is far from reaching his peak, and his ability is boundless. He now also carries the confidence of a four-time world champion.”

“If you push beyond your limits, it will go wrong. That’s why Liam should focus only on himself and aim to improve the car alongside Max. Any other approach would be fatal and doomed to fail.”
