Lawson Tipped as Red Bull’s Next Star - Pérez’s Fate Sealed

Eddie Jordan: Pérez Out, Lawson Ready to Step In

09/11/2024

Eddie Jordan casts doubt on Pérez’s Red Bull future, favoring young talent Lawson for a 2025 seat in Formula One’s top team.

Eddie Jordan adopted a rather bleak outlook on Sergio Pérez’s future during the Formula for Success podcast, which he co-hosts with David Coulthard. The Irishman is convinced that the Red Bull driver will be cast aside at the end of the season despite his contract, predicting that Red Bull will instead opt for Lawson.

“The individual who stood out to me, and I must be frank, is Lawson; he’s the real deal,” Jordan remarked. “He drove under immense pressure and demonstrated a remarkable composure. He didn’t have the advantage of a top-tier car like others did, yet he showcased a level of skill that genuinely impressed me. He’s ready for 2025.”

“How many chances has Pérez had now? Do you think he’ll have a seat next year, David? Not a chance. Not the slightest. He’s a wonderful guy, but we know that nice guys don’t win Grands Prix. Lawson, on the other hand, is part of the family and deserves to be in that seat.”

Prompted to respond to Jordan’s observations, Coulthard agreed, hinting that Red Bull’s decision on Pérez may already be sealed: “Well, look, I won’t disagree that Checo is a charming man.”

“He’s won Grands Prix. He’s been a loyal servant, just as the team has been to him. But unless something dramatic happens in the next three races to confirm that this issue is purely down to the car, then the writing is already very much on the wall for him.”
