Liam Lawson returns to Racing Bulls after his Red Bull Racing demotion, with Laurent Mekies focused on helping him thrive in the new role.
Red Bull Racing’s decision to place Yuki Tsunoda in the second RB21 seat has also impacted the Racing Bulls team.
However, it was never a question of sidelining Liam Lawson, as Christian Horner confirmed earlier today (read here).
The New Zealander is returning to Racing Bulls, where he will partner with Isack Hadjar.
Laurent Mekies, the team’s French director, began by congratulating the Japanese driver.
“We are extremely proud that Yuki has earned his well-deserved move to Oracle Red Bull Racing! His progress last year, and more recently since the start of 2025, has been nothing short of sensational.”
“Personally and as a team, it has been an incredible privilege to witness his growth, both in Faenza and Milton Keynes. Yuki’s energy and positivity have brightened every corner of our factories and garages, and he will always be part of Racing Bulls. We wish him all the success he truly deserves at Red Bull Racing.”
Mekies to Guide Lawson’s Return
Now Mekies faces the task of welcoming Lawson back into one of his cars. He will need to help the driver process the blow of his recent setback at Red Bull Racing and recover from the shock of his demotion.
“The entire team will work hard with Liam to provide him with the best possible environment so that he can shine in our car and showcase the talent we all know he has,” assures the Frenchman.
“He integrated seamlessly last year, and we are excited to push ourselves further and grow as a team alongside him. With Isack already making a fantastic start to his journey with us, we know we have a strong, youthful team.”
