RB F1 Eyes Points in Qatar Sprint After Lawson’s Progress

Lawson is satisfied with his progress in Qatar, while Tsunoda regrets his late exit, leaving RB F1 hopeful for points in the Sprint.

Liam Lawson reached SQ3 on Friday in Qatar and will start from the fifth row in Saturday’s Sprint. The RB F1 driver delivered a strong performance, especially as his future remains under close scrutiny. However, his main goal is to help the team recover points from its rivals.

“It’s a big step forward. We weren’t very fast before, and we had to do a lot of work to improve, but it’s great to have made it. The lap in SQ3 being cancelled is a shame, it’s only one position, but it makes a difference. But I’m happy with the progress,” said Lawson.

“There’s always more to extract from the car. We’ll work tonight, we did some long runs and will analyze the data. Losing that position will hurt us tomorrow as we need to gain one place to get into the points. Alpine, Haas, and I are right behind each other, fighting for the championship, so it’s important.”

“It was chaotic. I don’t know why we went out so late. All I did was rush my lap, and I didn’t have a good position on track. To be honest, I did what I could, but I couldn’t maximize my performance,” said Tsunoda.

The Japanese driver is frustrated because he saw potential in his VCARB 01 during Free Practice: “Yes, I think so, but it’s too late now. The qualifying session is already done, and we could have done better than that.”
