Helmut Marko confirms Yuki Tsunoda’s spot at RB F1 for 2025, with either Ricciardo or Lawson set to join him.
Yuki Tsunoda is set to embark on his fifth season in Formula 1 next year, according to Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport consultant.
However, the Japanese driver may have a new teammate, with Liam Lawson being considered as a potential replacement for Daniel Ricciardo.
Following Red Bull’s announcement earlier this week confirming Sergio Perez’s stay in their leading team for at least two more years (subject to likely stringent performance clauses), Marko today clarified the plans for their secondary team, RB F1.
“Yuki Tsunoda is confirmed, that’s clear for 2025.”
While not an official statement, it indicates that Tsunoda will indeed continue in F1 with the Red Bull family, effectively ruling out a potential move to Aston Martin (considering Honda’s arrival in 2026).
Regarding his teammate, Marko is equally unequivocal. The decision will be between Liam Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo.
“Lawson is present at every race, and we are in close contact. There is a clause with Lawson. If we do not offer him a main seat, he will be free to join other teams. We will decide between Daniel and him a bit later.”
