Liam Lawson’s daring strategy backfired as heavy rain caught him out, sending the Red Bull driver into the barriers after a tough weekend.
Liam Lawson’s debut race for Red Bull ended in disappointment after he crashed out in wet conditions while running on medium tires. The young driver admitted he had hoped to push through without stopping for wets, but the track quickly became too treacherous. Despite backing off, he lost control.
“We took a gamble. Half the track was dry, and we thought the other half would improve, so we stayed out. But then it started pouring. I wasn’t even pushing anymore—I was just trying to keep it on the road. It wasn’t ideal,” Lawson explained.
But the crash wasn’t the only issue. Lawson had already endured a tough weekend, struggling significantly behind his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen, losing several seconds per lap.
“Honestly, we’ve had a really tough time. I struggled a lot with front tire issues early in the race. Overall, it was just a very difficult weekend,” he admitted.
A tough debut for Lawson, but every race is a learning experience—he’ll be hoping for a smoother weekend next time.
