After a sudden Red Bull drop, Liam Lawson found his rhythm again through relentless racing, regaining confidence during a demanding triple-header.
Liam Lawson didn’t have much time to dwell on his Red Bull Racing demotion. Instead, he jumped straight back into action with three back-to-back Grands Prix, allowing him to refocus behind the wheel at Racing Bulls.
Speaking from the paddock in Miami, the New Zealander shared how a packed race schedule helped him stay grounded after being dropped by Red Bull just two races into the season. With Japan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia coming one after another, Lawson had little time to reflect — and that might have been a blessing in disguise.
“Honestly, it depends how you look at it,” Lawson said. “In one way, you want more time to think. But at the same time, it was probably better for my mindset to just drive and not overanalyze.”
For three straight weeks, racing became his therapy. It helped block out the noise and gave him space to focus on the job at hand.
“I’ve just been in the car every week, which was actually good. Now, with a short break, I’ve had the chance to process everything and come back feeling even stronger.”
Those few days off gave Lawson the reset he needed. The past few months have been intense, especially with the triple-header. And while he can’t change what happened, he’s choosing to learn and move forward.
Lawson faced a tough challenge from rookie teammate Isack Hadjar, who already had a better feel for the car. But after a few races in the VCARB 02, Lawson believes he’s starting to settle in.
“I’m working on fine-tuning the car to suit my driving style. Racing on three very different circuits helped me explore a range of setups and better understand how this car behaves.”
He felt confident in Jeddah and said Bahrain also gave him good feedback. Right now, it’s about building comfort, especially at tracks that are still new to him.
“This season, everything is so tight. A tenth or two can mean the difference between missing Q1 or making Q3. It’s incredibly challenging, but that’s also what makes the racing exciting.”
