Lawson Blames Alonso for Collision, Spaniard Criticizes Strategy

Lawson blames Alonso for their Miami Sprint clash, while the Spaniard criticizes his team’s strategy for missing out on points.

Liam Lawson expressed frustration over his collision with Fernando Alonso during the Miami Sprint but believes his attempt to overtake on the outside was valid. He feels he was forced off track by the Aston Martin driver. The matter is still under investigation as of this writing.

“It was a good race, a solid start to the weekend. It came down to Turn 1; sometimes a gap opens up and you can take it. The pace was good, and it’s great for us to score points,” Lawson said after the Sprint, reflecting on his race and the collision.

He went on to explain, “He came out with cold tires, and I had already done a lap, so I tried to pass him quickly. I used the DRS to get ahead at the corner entry. I thought I had made the move, but I was squeezed off track. At that moment, I was trying to avoid the wall, and he didn’t leave me any space, but I believe my wheels were ahead.”

Meanwhile, Alonso is still waiting to score points and criticized his strategy, without mentioning the collision. “It was a good race, but unfortunately, we stopped too late. At one point, I was fighting with Lewis [Hamilton] and Alex [Albon], and later found myself battling with Lawson. I think we missed an opportunity,” Alonso said.
