Komatsu Hails Haas F1’s Milestone Budget Cap Ambition

Haas F1 Set to Hit Budget Cap for First Time in 2025

01/01/2025

Haas F1 aims to reach Formula 1’s budget cap in 2025, a first for the team, marking a key step forward.

Haas F1 will achieve something in 2025 it has never done before: reaching Formula 1’s budget cap. Ayao Komatsu, its director, confirmed that for the first time, the American team will operate at the financial limit.

“Our goal is to reach the budget cap next year,” Komatsu confirmed. “This is something new. With Haas, we’ve never hit the budget cap, right? How do you compete? So, if you really want to be competitive, you need to operate within the budget limits. So yes, that’s our target.”

The Japanese director is pleased with the team’s growing ambitions: “I think it’s very positive that we are disappointed not to be sixth, because, as I said at the start of the season, our official goal was eighth. To finish eighth, you have to beat two teams.”

“I was asking myself, ‘Who can we beat? Which two teams will we beat?’ After last year’s disaster, over the previous four seasons, we only finished ninth, tenth, and eighth. So, achieving eighth place was already a significant challenge.”

“But I think we’ve shown this year that, even though we are by far the smallest team, if we work together, we can achieve success, which is something we can all be proud of, I believe, for everyone in the team.”

The seventh place ultimately achieved was still a highly positive target for Haas: “I think you have to see it this way—if someone had told us at the beginning of the year that we would finish seventh, we would all have signed up for that.”

“But, of course, the bar is now higher. Every time we do better, our expectations rise, the threshold of what we accept and what we fight for in this race, which is a good thing.”

“After the race, everyone was, of course, disappointed not to have reached sixth place, but at the same time, we exceeded our expectations. And then everyone says it’s good to be disappointed about missing sixth place because that’s where our standard is now.”
