Ayao Komatsu admits Haas lacked pace in Jeddah, as Bearman and Ocon finished outside the top ten despite strong efforts.
Haas F1 Team boss Ayao Komatsu believes his squad got everything they could out of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, finishing 13th and 14th with Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon. According to Komatsu, that result reflects the team’s current pace.
“I think we did everything we could in Jeddah,” Komatsu said after the race. “But at the end of the day, we just didn’t have the speed to challenge for points. That result is fair—it’s where we are right now.”
Haas struggled on the fast, flowing corners of the Jeddah street circuit, a layout that didn’t play to the strengths of their current car.
“Everyone gave their best, and we maximized what we had,” Komatsu added. “But unfortunately, this type of track exposed our limitations.”
Looking ahead, Komatsu is targeting improvements in qualifying, particularly in tire management: “We’re working on understanding how to get more out of the soft tires. That’s going to be a key focus heading into Miami.”
Despite the lack of points in Jeddah, Komatsu remains upbeat: “It’s been a tough triple-header, but overall I’m proud of the team. We had strong results in Bahrain and Suzuka, so we need to take a step back and look at the big picture. We’ll reset and push forward in Miami.”
