Jürgen Klopp Keen to Unlock Verstappen’s High-Speed Mentality

Jürgen Klopp, intrigued by Max Verstappen’s focus under pressure, hopes to learn how the champion excels at 300 km/h.

Football manager Jürgen Klopp admits he is eager to learn from four-time world champion Max Verstappen.

Renowned for his ability to revitalize football teams, the 57-year-old German stepped down from Liverpool FC after the 2024 season.

On Tuesday, he was introduced as the “Global Head of Soccer” for Red Bull in Austria, overseeing the energy drink brand’s clubs such as RB Leipzig, the New York Red Bulls, and others.

Red Bull F1 advisor Dr. Helmut Marko revealed his intention to leverage Klopp’s expertise to support Red Bull Racing, Racing Bulls, and the junior driver program.

“I’d like him to be involved with the drivers. His experience and leadership could be decisive,” Marko said.

Asked about the prospect, Klopp admitted he was particularly eager to meet Verstappen.

“There’s so much to talk about. Not just because of his focus but also for many other reasons,” Klopp noted.

“I’d like to spend time with him to understand how he does what he does, while danger is constantly present, driving at 300 km/h or taking a turn at 180 degrees. He manages all of that, handles the buttons on his steering wheel, and his mindset remains at its peak.”

“It’s fascinating. I have no idea how it works, so maybe he can explain it to me.”

However, Klopp clarified that his current role will remain entirely focused on football.

“I’m not going to become a coach for a Red Bull team; that’s a clear decision. I can assure you of that. But I’m the only person in this room who gets asked what I’ll be doing in four years. Nobody knows.”

“But yes, I always want to learn, even from other sports. Drivers are always at their best when the danger is at its highest, so go ahead, give me that information, and I’ll try to translate it into football.”

Verstappen commented that Klopp’s arrival at Red Bull was great news.

“He has a lot of experience. I think his arrival is very good news for the brand. With all his experience, he can bring a lot of value to the organization.”

Jürgen Klopp Poised to Join Red Bull F1 as Dr. Marko’s Strategic Advisor

The iconic football manager and coach Jürgen Klopp might become involved in Formula 1, potentially serving as Dr. Helmut Marko’s right-hand man for the driver program.

Renowned for transforming football teams with his energy and leadership, the 57-year-old has decided to leave Liverpool FC after the 2024 season.

This Tuesday, it will be announced at Red Bull’s global headquarters in Austria that Klopp will assume the role of the company’s new “Global Football Director,” overseeing clubs such as RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls, and others like Paris FC.

Oliver Mintzlaff, who took charge of sports at Red Bull, including Formula 1, following Dietrich Mateschitz’s passing, stated that Klopp was enthusiastic about his new position.

“He finds it fantastic, not just the football side of things but also the other sports in which Red Bull is involved and all the work being done for young talent.”

Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s Formula 1 advisor, expressed his interest in leveraging Klopp’s expertise. However, he admitted that detailed discussions about Klopp’s potential involvement with drivers had not yet taken place.

“He’s an extraordinary coach and a great motivator. I’d love for him to be involved with the drivers. His experience and leadership could be decisive. So far, I’ve only met him in person once, so let’s see how he could support me.”

Marko described Red Bull’s ability to sign Klopp as “sensational news.”

“I just don’t know how he plans to juggle it all—managing so many teams across different continents. Red Bull has a club in Germany, two in Austria, one in England, one in Japan, and one in Brazil.”

“But as football is very important to us, I believe this was the best decision that could have been made.”
