Jack Doohan steps in for Pierre Gasly, driving Alpine F1’s car in Free Practice 1 at Silverstone.
Alpine F1 announced that reserve driver Jack Doohan will take the wheel of the A524 during the British Grand Prix practice sessions.
F1 rules require each driver to relinquish their car for a practice session during the year to promote the development of young and rookie drivers.
Esteban Ocon handed his car over to Doohan in Canada, but rain prevented the Australian from completing a full program in Free Practice 1. The son of MotoGP legend Mick will get another chance in Pierre Gasly’s car at this weekend’s British GP at Silverstone.
This will be Doohan’s sixth Free Practice 1 session for the team, following sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi in 2022 and 2023, in addition to the outing in Montreal in June.
Doohan is a major contender for a seat in 2025, alongside Mick Schumacher, if Carlos Sainz declines Flavio Briatore’s offer.
Note that both drivers will drive this Wednesday at Paul Ricard with the 2022 car before heading to Silverstone.
