Stake F1 faced challenges in evaluating new upgrades at Imola due to windy and bumpy conditions, affecting both Bottas and Zhou’s performance during Friday’s sessions.
Valtteri Bottas had difficulty evaluating the new upgrades brought by Stake F1 to Imola, consisting of two revised wings. The Finnish driver revealed that the wind complicated the assessment of the new parts, but he remains optimistic ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying.
“Windy and bumpy, to sum up the day! We had some developments to test, but the conditions were so challenging that it’s hard to evaluate, and we made compromises on the settings,” noted Bottas.
“We’ll learn more tomorrow with conditions expected to be very different. We need to try to understand how to gain performance with some changes, so it will be a busy evening.”
Guanyu Zhou finished the second session in 19th place, acknowledging a challenging day at Imola. He noted that the asphalt has changed since 2022 and hopes his Sauber C44 will be better set up tomorrow.
“It was more difficult than expected. I had issues in the morning and got stuck in the garage. The afternoon went better, but I’m struggling with the balance. There’s still work to do for tomorrow, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed,” Zhou stated.
“Compared to our last visit, the track is very bumpy, the car jumps a lot, and it’s tough to put everything together. The wind was constantly changing, making the last two corners very difficult.”
“We’re going to make some changes to the car. We had two different setups, and I’m confident we’ll find a good compromise. I’ll also have the new floor starting tomorrow, which should give me more grip.”
