Nico Hülkenberg believes Sauber’s 2025 campaign still counts, with performance gains possible despite the growing focus on Audi’s arrival.
After a strong result in Melbourne with a solid P7, things have become more challenging for Sauber in recent races. Speaking ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, Nico Hülkenberg opened up about the C45’s current form — and where he thinks the team can still make gains.
“Hopefully we haven’t reached the limit yet,” Hülkenberg said. “I believe we can push further as the season goes on.”
The last two rounds haven’t been easy. Hülkenberg pointed out that while some circuits like Jeddah seemed to suit the car better, Sauber hasn’t fully capitalized on its opportunities — particularly in qualifying. “We just weren’t competitive enough in the races. It’s very tight in the midfield, so to score points you really need to get everything right. That’s where we are right now. There’s still work to do, but we’re not miles off.”
When asked about what kind of tracks suit the C45 best, Hülkenberg was cautious:
“Not necessarily high-speed tracks. Based on what we’ve seen so far, the car performs a bit better on low to medium-speed circuits — which could play in our favor here in Miami. But honestly, temperature and track conditions always play a big role too.”
With Sauber already deep into preparations for its Audi transformation in 2026, what does Hülkenberg hope to see from the team in the remainder of this season?
“It’s important that we keep building momentum. Everything we do this year feeds into next year. Even if the regulations change, the processes, the mindset, and the improvements matter. Everyone’s thinking long-term, especially the big teams — but that doesn’t mean we stop pushing now. We still want to fight for points. There’s a long way to go in the season, and there’s a lot still up for grabs.”
