Nico Hülkenberg missed the Qatar media day due to illness, but Haas F1 has rested him to ensure his availability for the race weekend.
Hülkenberg missed the media day at the Qatar Grand Prix due to a cold that left him feeling weak. The Haas F1 driver was rested for the day to recover and regain strength ahead of the weekend.
“Nico will miss the media day due to a cold, so he’s unavailable today. This is a purely precautionary measure for the weekend,” said the team, which confirmed his participation in the race weekend was not in doubt.
If he were too unwell to race, Oliver Bearman would step in on Friday and Saturday morning, as it is a Sprint weekend, just like at Interlagos, where the Englishman replaced Kevin Magnussen.
The Danish driver is focused on helping Haas defend its position in the championship: “It’s very important for the team to finish as high as possible in the constructors’ standings. Right now, we’re sixth, with one point ahead of Alpine and three more ahead of RB F1.”
“It’s a big difference whether we finish sixth or eighth. It’s a very important financial matter if we finish eighth instead of sixth. All that money goes into development for the future, so it’s clear that it’s crucial for the team that we finish sixth.”
