Haas F1: Hulkenberg Secures 9th in Singapore, Nears RB

22/09/2024

Hulkenberg’s strong drive puts Haas just shy of Racing Bulls in the tight championship race.

Haas F1 Gains Two More Points in Singapore Thanks to Nico Hulkenberg!

The German driver’s ninth-place finish at Marina Bay Circuit was satisfying, though he may have hoped for more.

“I’m pleased to have scored points. There are a few areas for us to review and refine on our side, but otherwise, it was a clean race. It wasn’t very eventful, but it was incredibly stressful keeping the Red Bull behind during the entire second stint; it was challenging to reach the finish without error. We managed it, and I’m pleased; it’s somewhat of a redemption for last week. We positioned ourselves well yesterday with qualifying, which was another key point. I had a good start, a solid race, and it’s crucial that we scored these points.”

Kevin Magnussen was forced to retire after a puncture following a collision with a wall.

“I had a puncture – sometimes, you hit a rough spot and it slices the tyre. We weren’t quick with the hard tyre; we tried the opposite strategy and went for a long stint hoping for a safety car in the middle window of the race, which didn’t happen. We had to shorten the stint on the hard compound, and I got a puncture towards the end. We’ve had a good pace in the last few races and we are in a strong position with the car. We’re getting an upgrade in Austin and we have all the races ahead of us for the rest of the season.”

Ayao Komatsu, team director, sees Haas F1 closing to within three points of RB F1 in the championship (34 points to 31). The sixth place in the constructors’ standings is within reach.

“It’s fantastic to leave Singapore with two points and having scored in three consecutive races is very commendable. The consistency is there, and Nico drove superbly today; his second stint was under constant pressure from a Red Bull and he made no mistakes, bringing the car home in ninth place. That’s another two points and just three behind RB with six races to go. We’ve also widened the gap on Williams, so mission accomplished.”
