Sauber confirms Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto for the Abu Dhabi post-season test as they prepare for the 2025 season with the team.
Sauber / Stake F1 team will open the next chapter of its history as its 2025 lineup, consisting of Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, will participate together in the post-season Formula 1 test in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 10.
The participation in this customary end-of-season test – a chance for drivers to make their first steps with their new teams – marks a significant milestone for both drivers as they prepare to join the Hinwil-based team in 2025.
Hülkenberg will focus on evaluating the team’s end-of-season developments, providing valuable feedback while familiarizing himself with the engineers and the team. Bortoleto, the reigning Formula 3 champion and current leader of this year’s Formula 2 championship, will have the opportunity to drive one of the team’s Formula 1 cars for the first time, gaining crucial experience as he transitions into his racing role with the team.
The one-day test will see both drivers on track, with Hülkenberg participating in the Pirelli tire test and Bortoleto taking part in the young driver test. The team will effectively use this session as an unofficial start to the 2025 campaign, laying the groundwork for the new season before the winter break.
“This is an important first step for Nico and Gabriel as they integrate into the team,” said Mattia Binotto, Team Principal.
“For Nico, it’s an opportunity to familiarize himself with the car and begin working closely with our engineers ahead of what promises to be a busy 2025 season. For Gabriel, it’s a fantastic opportunity to gain experience, get acquainted with the Formula 1 machinery and its complex procedures, and take his first steps in his development at the highest level of motorsport.”
“We look forward to seeing them both in action and starting our journey together.”
