Hülkenberg Blasts Teammate Perez

Magnussen: I Found Myself Pinned Against the Wall by Perez

26/05/2024

Kevin Magnussen recounts his collision with Sergio Perez at Monaco, expressing frustration over the incident. Nico Hülkenberg shares his anger, blaming both his teammate and Perez for the crash.

The Dane collided with Sergio Perez and believes he was not at fault for the incident. The race stewards classified it as a racing incident, much to the relief of Magnussen, who is always at risk of a race suspension if he accumulates 2 more penalty points on his license.

“From my point of view, I had a good portion of my front alongside Perez’s rear, and when he moved towards the wall, I got pushed into the wall and made contact with him.”

“I trusted he would leave me space since I was there. It’s not a corner where you brake, it’s a straight-line corner, so you need to have a car width otherwise you leave no option for the other guy.”

“From my perspective, I was there and got pinned against the wall, and there was nothing I could do.”

For Nico Hülkenberg, a collateral victim of this incident, “it wasn’t necessary.”

“It was a typical first-lap crash. Two drivers who both didn’t want to yield and didn’t leave enough space on a narrow track like Monaco, and I was the unlucky victim.”

“Whether it was my teammate or Checo, I don’t know, but it’s ridiculous once again!”
