'Huge disappointment': Jos Verstappen criticizes Red Bull

Jos Verstappen Slams Red Bull, Labels Effort Poor

Jos Verstappen brands Red Bull’s effort a ‘huge disappointment’, while Horner vows a relentless fight.

Christian Horner acknowledges that McLaren F1 has overtaken Red Bull in the latter half of the season and that the Woking team will score more points in the upcoming races. He is pleased that Max Verstappen was able to build a cushion early in the season.

“We are fortunate they were less competitive at the start of the year,” Horner admitted. “We have a 70-point lead in the drivers’ standings, but that can quickly diminish. It’s remarkable that this is only Lando’s second win in this car.”

“He’s driving well, gaining confidence. The pressure is on us. We’ve been used to fighting for the championship for years, and we will draw on our resources. We will fight with everything we have over the remaining nine races.”

These explanations are unlikely to appease Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, who is furious. The Dutchman directly criticizes the company’s technical direction and Horner’s political choices, suggesting again that tensions exist between the Verstappen camp and the team.

“More than 20 seconds is a huge disappointment, but it’s not surprising when you reverse engineer the car. I probably shouldn’t say this, but I am anyway,” Jos declared. “The fact that we need to revert to the car from the start of the year says a lot. They simply don’t have what it takes right now.”

“The team has made several mistakes. Internally, they should look in the mirror and not always sugarcoat everything. It’s time—if not already too late—to question themselves. The good elements are leaving the team.”

“I am very unhappy with what’s happening because Max cannot be happy with such a car. Now, it’s up to Horner to get the team back on track. I would be surprised if he manages it. A lot needs to happen for that. The entire spirit needs to change.”

“Max knew this was coming. He simply had no chance. This way, it’s going to be really tough for the rest of the year. Max is doing everything he can, but he doesn’t have the equipment. It was already exceptional that he finished second.”
