Max Verstappen’s title hopes hinge on maintaining his lead in Las Vegas, where every point will prove crucial in the championship race.
With a masterclass performance in the rain yesterday, Max Verstappen reminded us just how exceptional a driver he is, even though victory has eluded him for several months.
The Dutchman has skilfully maximized his results and points during this dry spell. With an impressive 26 points secured yesterday, coupled with a lacklustre race from Lando Norris, Verstappen has once again extended his lead in the drivers’ championship.
Now with a 62-point advantage, this gap more than meets the requirement for Verstappen to have a strong chance of clinching his fourth title in Las Vegas, needing only to maintain at least a 60-point lead.
Conceding just two points may sound simple, but if McLaren and Norris continue their recent dominance in dry conditions, it might not be so straightforward.
Verstappen can secure the world championship if:
Norris’s Position | Verstappen’s Required Position |
---|---|
Any position behind Verstappen | Ahead of Norris |
2nd | 3rd with fastest lap point |
3rd | 4th with fastest lap point |
4th | 5th |
5th | 6th |
6th | 7th |
7th | 8th |
8th | 9th |
9th, 10th or No points | Out of points or retired |
